“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
– James 5:16
Prayer is found in the KJV of the Bible four hundred-eighty seven (406) times, and in one hundred twenty-eight (128) verses. It is also located in the Old Testament (75 times) and in the New Testament (53 times), and in many forms:
- pray (508 times)
- prayed ( 65 times)
- prayers (24 times)
- praying (20 times)
Prayer is a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or an object of worship. In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus teaches his followers how to pray:
“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
This is a great example for us to model. By our faith, God hears and answers us through our prayers.

Take Time to Praise the Lord in Prayer!
Heavenly Father, Glory Hallelujah to your Holy Name! Thank you for this day, our daily bread and forgive us of our trespasses. Thank you for leading us besides the still water to restore our souls. In You, we can see our way clearly to say on this day, “we forgive those who hurt us.” In You, we can love our neighbors and help those in need of Your care. Teach us, Oh God, to do your perfect will in our lives. Without You there would be nothing! Lord God, we love You with all of our hearts, mind, and soul. I praise You, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
