Some people have a problem with praising Jesus. Many might say, “I worship only God.” Under the law, we are told to worship only YHWH (God), even Jesus tells Satan “worship only God and serve Him” (Matt. 4:10). Reiterating the first commandment, “You shall have no other gods beside Me (YHWH)” (Ex. 20:2 and Deut. 5:6). These scriptures are dutifully stated as being correct, however we must understand one truth in order to praise Jesus.
What is praise? It’s nothing more than the outward expression of your inward faith. Praise is a verb; the acts of worship, like lifting hands, singing, and many other actions. By your faith, you express in respect with your heart desire towards God. Hebrews 13:15 tells us, it’s a sacrificial new covenant offering. It’s something that we do now – and throughout eternity! We praise the Lord of Glory, and the Lord of lords. They are interchangeable (apparently alike; simple identical) in Spirit. However, Matthew 1:23: shares something important with us, “Behold, a virgin (Mary) shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son (Jesus), and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Did you catch that? Who are the “they” in this verse? Mary and Joseph or the angel of the Lord? Neither. Kalesousin which is greek translated in English for us as “they will call.” That phrase means to invite, call to, or summon. John 1:1 expressed this same emerging divine utterance. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth (John 1:14).” In order words, the Logos of God (they will call into existence – the Word) became flesh on the earth by the same (one) Spirit. So what body suit was used for God’s glory? Emmanuel, the only begotten son, Jesus Christ from the Father God. The define word of Emmanuel,”God with Us,” equals the Savior. This is the truth you needed to know.
Please do not get it twisted, God is not Jesus. Jesus is not God! God is a Spirit (John 4:23), plus John 1:18 tells us, “No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” Jesus was born with a physical body, just like you and I, with the same essence – body, blood, spirit – of existence. After Christ’s resurrection, He is the first person to be quickened (spring to life) to immorality (eternal life). “And we know that the Son of God (Jesus) is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life” (1 John 5:20). Right now, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father God making intercession for us (Romans 8:34). Jesus is daily coming to our defense, because we need an advocate (1 John 2:1). Glory, thank you Lord! Do you remember certain of the synagogue and leaders disputing with Stephen in Acts chapter 7? He was stoned for their false witness against the truth. Before Stephen’s spirit was released from his body, he saw and utter about the vision from heaven in Acts 7:55-56: “But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.” What did Stephen see? Jesus and the Glory of God. They are two individuals. John states that they are one in essence and nature; “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30).
Will you praise Jesus Christ now? He is the truth and the light of this matter, plus I want you to take hold of praising Him. If He is your Lord and Savior, why not give Him your all? The Father God has exalted Jesus above all other names (Phillippians 2:9). If this mind be in you, understand this: “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:6-8).” That you and I do not have to paid the cost for our sins. Oh yes, Jesus is worthy to be praised!
To inspire you, I have the following scriptures to illustrate praise and worship given to Jesus:
Matthew 8:2 “And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.”
The leper bowed before the King of kings, Jesus Christ.
Matthew 2:11 “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.”
The wise men worshipped the young child named Jesus in reverence.
Matthew 21:16 “And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?”
The crowd praise Jesus Christ as He rode a donkey into Jerusalem. Hosanna, blessed be our rock of salvation!
Matthew 28:9 “And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.”
Matthew 28:17 “And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.”
The disciples worship Jesus after His resurrection in verses 9 and 17.
Mark 5:6 “But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,”
A man with unclean spirits named Legion worshipped Jesus. The demons know who Jesus is?
John 9:38 “And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.”
A man which was blind from his birth worshipped Jesus.
John 20:28 “And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.”
Thomas believed in Jesus, after seeing His scar. He praised Jesus Christ saying “My Lord and my God.” Do you believe this for yourself?
Revelation 22:3 “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:”
Eternal praise of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ forever.
Who is like our God? No one. Who is the author and finisher of our Faith? Jesus Christ. He is worthy to be praised, just like the Father. There is one throne in heaven, and it belong to God and the Lamb. Those who are in God’s service will be a servant of Jesus too! Will we stop and think about these things? We are to worship God in the truth of knowing His Son Jesus Christ. You cannot praise and worship God without the Holy Spirit revealing this to you. If you walking in the spirit, you will see these things. Shout out loudly, your praise to your Savior. All of heaven shouts, “Worthy is the Lamb of God.” Will you sing back in obedience? Worthy is the Lamb! Worthy is He. Now and forever Jesus is worthy to be praised!
