Did you enjoy the gift of worship video yesterday, and the quote from one of my favorite old-time ministers, A. W. Tozer? Tell me yes, great! Here is another quote by Tozer:
We Were Made to Worship
“Mans nature indicates that he was created for three things: To think, to worship and to work. But thinking is not enough. Men are made to worship also, to bow down and adore in the presence of the Mystery inexpressible. Mans mind is not the top peak of his nature. Higher than his mind is his spirit, that something within him which can engage the supernatural, which under the breath of the Spirit can come alive and enter into conscious communion with heaven, can receive the divine nature and hear and feel and see the ineffable wonder that is God. When, therefore, an institution dedicated to the growth and development of the thinking person seeks at the same time to turn this thinker into a worshiper, our debt to that institution becomes all the greater. So many schools on every level are content to train the intellect, forgetting that they are dealing with but part of the man-an important part certainly, but a part only. The wise of the world who have not learned to worship are but demi-men, unformed and rudimentary. Their further development awaits the life-giving touch of Christ to wake them to spiritual birth and life eternal.”
There is truth to what Tozer is saying, and I’m here to help you with that intellect. In order to truly worship God, you must have understanding. Proverbs 4:7 states, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
We mentally consent in our reasoning that we know that worship is important, but fail to act on that reasoning. Why? Because we really do not believe it! We always act on what we believe. For example, when you received Jesus into your life, you confess Him out of your mouth, and then went around telling others of your testimony. Right! You charge items on your credit card, believing you will pay for it at the end of the month. Right! You are tired from all that shopping and you see a chair, you go over to it, believing that chair will hold your body up. Right! We do many things because of our beliefs. So why is it so hard to take worship seriously?
The bible tells of worship more frequently than any other topic in the bible, and yet, we still mentally assent it to be true. The Word of God emphasized the theme of worship approximately 447 times. How many times does God have to say something to get your attention? I guess until you stop mentally assenting this to be true. It is THE TRUTH; you are to praise and worship God every day, whether you act on it or not. It’s still THE TRUTH: God’s Word.
Let’s look at Exodus 20. This is about the children of Israel receiving the Ten Commandments from Moses. I would like for you to notice the first commandment. It states, starting from verse 2, “I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.”
The first commandment then, is to worship. We are to worship God and God alone. Now, do you think, it is our priority? I encourage you to learn about this topic on worship, and get your intellect to act on what you believe. I guess if God had to remind the Children of Israel again in Exodus 34:14, then I guess He is telling you again through my writings.
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” –Matthew 22:37
What do you think Jesus is saying in the passage of scripture? Jesus is saying to love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence; “to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).”
We must renew our minds to the priority of worship. It is an important part of who we are as children of God. In heaven, that’s something we will do all the time – non-stop. Believe it or not, we are in training for the heavenly experience. Please do not fail your test!
If you do not learn it down here on earth, you will definitely learn about worship in Heaven. I hope you are provoked in your spirit.
Until next time, continue to be blessed and Praise the Lord!
