Study: Machowl, Dancing in a Circle or Whirling

When the spirit of the Lord, comes upon my heart

I will dance, Like David danced

When the spirit of the Lord, comes upon my heart

I will dance, Like David Danced

I will dance, I will dance, I will dance

I will dance, like David Danced!

Did you karar the Lord yesterday? Dance before the Him in honor and glory.

This is a great time to express yourself, even if you cannot really dance. God does not care. He made you, and knows if you can dance or not. That is not the point! I Samuel 16:7(b) states, “For the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” In other words, men see your dance, but God sees your heart. Your heart is what matters to HIM! It’s the same thing with singing men hear your voice, but God hears your heart!

The point is to give your best praise to him on a daily basis.

Dancing is just one expression. It can be exciting for you, if you put your heart into your movement. Listening to rhythms and beats that will stir your heart to worship God Almighty, just like King David’s dance. By focusing on the Lord, your dance will shout out every evil force, and bring on victory in the life of a believer.

Let me ask you this question, if you could not talk, how would you express your praise to God? Seeing that our praise is the fruit of our lips, how would you show God you love Him?

Would you Yadah or Todah?

Would you Halal the Lord with all your might?

Would you Taqa’, or Karar?

The choice will be yours, but the attitude of the heart is what God’s looking for in praise & worship. He knows the heart and the motive of everyone, and is continually looking for those who will worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24).

If this your first time here, you can read about the other Hebrew words mention above by clicking here: HEBREW WORDS FOR PRAISE.

Pride stops faith in its tracks, and your faith is needed to continue in your praise experience. It will prevent you from moving forth in the things of God, and give you a false sense of your own value: for which you should have in the heart of God’s commands. It states in Psalms 33:1, “Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.” In other words, you are the children of the Most High God. Obey him and celebrate on a daily basis! Why? Because, He deserves your praise.

That’s it! Are you going to dance or not? Are you going to be prideful or not?

I hope that I have provoked you to do what God has called all of us to do: to praise & worship Him without anger or doubting!

I have another Hebrew word for you to learn and it is called Machowl.

Machowl (ma’ khole) means “a round dance (Chowl; whirling particles, as sand)”.

Joy Conference: Almighty by Vicki Yohe

This word can be found in the following scriptures: Psalm 30:11,Psalms 149:3, Psalms 150:4, Jeremiah 31:4, Jeremiah 31:13, Lamentation 5:15, Exodus 15:20, and 1 Samuel 18:6.

The most popular verse for this word, Machowl, is as follows (Psalm 30:11):

“Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;”

I will leave you with this song called “Mourning into Dancing” from Willow Creek Church. Enjoy!
